The best 3D printers for beginners

Best for most beginners
Bambu Lab A1 Mini

Bambu Lab A1 Mini 3D printer for beginners
$249*

price checked Nov 7, 2026

The A1 Mini removes the step where most beginners get stuck: it calibrates itself fully and compensates the filament flow automatically. Bambu Lab advertises operation at 48 dB or less, and the offer we checked includes an LED lamp kit to build your first printed lamp. You get direct access to the MakerWorld model library from the Bambu Studio software.

  • Strengths: among the easiest printers to set up, compact, AMS lite multicolor unit available as an option.
  • Keep in mind: build volume of 180 × 180 × 180 mm (about 7 in per side). For bigger parts, the A1 Combo below uses the larger A1.

Cheapest
Creality Ender-3 V3 SE

Creality Ender-3 V3 SE cheap 3D printer
$199*

price checked Nov 8, 2026

The only printer under $200 in our database with auto leveling (CR Touch), a Sprite direct extruder, dual Z-axis and auto filament loading. The 220 × 220 × 250 mm build volume (about 8.7 in per side) is larger than the A1 Mini’s. Sold by Creality and shipped by Amazon at the time of our check.

  • Strengths: lowest price for a solid start, more build space than the A1 Mini, huge Ender community.
  • Keep in mind: a classic moving-bed design that needs a little more attention than a Bambu Lab. Open frame, so PLA, PETG and TPU. The price was shown as a discount from $219.

Best value
ELEGOO Centauri 2

ELEGOO Centauri 2 3D printer
$279*

price checked Nov 8, 2026

A CoreXY printer, where the bed only moves down while the head moves fast in X and Y, with full auto calibration, pre-print checks and a 350 °C nozzle. ELEGOO advertises up to 500 mm/s, and the 256 × 256 × 256 mm build volume (about 10 in per side) matches printers that cost much more.

  • Strengths: speed and build volume for the price, auto calibration, four-color upgrade available with the Centauri 2 Combo* ($329).
  • Keep in mind: open frame, not enclosed, so stick to PLA, PETG and TPU. Software less integrated than Bambu Lab’s. A cheaper fast CoreXY is the Flashforge Adventurer 5M* ($249), with a smaller 220 mm build volume.

Best multicolor
Bambu Lab A1 Combo

Bambu Lab A1 Combo multicolor 3D printer with AMS lite
$419*

price checked Nov 7, 2026

The A1 with the AMS lite, a unit that switches between four spools automatically, plus an LED lamp kit. You get the same automatic calibration as the A1 Mini on a larger 256 × 256 × 256 mm build volume (about 10 in per side). Thousands of multicolor models on MakerWorld are ready to print.

  • Strengths: one of the simplest ways to print in color from day one, larger than the A1 Mini.
  • Keep in mind: every color change purges some filament and adds time. Open frame, so no ABS. Cheaper four-color options are the ELEGOO Centauri 2 Combo* ($329) and the Flashforge AD5X* ($349).

Best enclosed
Bambu Lab P1S

Bambu Lab P1S enclosed 3D printer
$349*

price checked Nov 8, 2026

A fully enclosed CoreXY printer, ready to use out of the box. The enclosure keeps heat in, which helps with ABS and ASA for heat- or UV-resistant parts. Bambu Lab advertises up to 500 mm/s and automatic bed leveling on a 256 × 256 × 256 mm build volume. Add the AMS for color, or take the P1S Combo* ($479) with the AMS included.

  • Strengths: tougher materials and an upgrade path to color in one machine; the enclosure also reduces noise and drafts.
  • Keep in mind: both P1S prices were limited-time deals when we checked (regularly $399 and $549), so check the current price. ABS still needs a well-ventilated room. An enclosed alternative is the Creality K1C* ($368.99).

Large format on a budget
Creality Ender-3 V3 Plus

Creality Ender-3 V3 Plus large 3D printer
$349.99*

price checked Nov 8, 2026

For cosplay parts, helmets or big storage boxes in one piece: a 300 × 300 × 330 mm build volume (about 11.8 × 11.8 × 13 in), CoreXZ motion up to 600 mm/s according to Creality, auto leveling and a direct drive extruder.

  • Keep in mind: open frame, and its Amazon.com rating was on the low side when we checked. For engineering materials on a large build plate, the enclosed QIDI Plus5* ($749) has a chamber heated to 65 °C, but it is aimed at ambitious users rather than a first printer.

Best resin printer for beginners
ELEGOO Mars 5 Ultra

ELEGOO Mars 5 Ultra resin 3D printer
$356.98*

regular price checked Nov 7, 2026

For miniatures, tabletop figures and jewelry, resin gives detail filament can’t match. The Mars 5 Ultra adds the automation beginners benefit from: a 7-inch 9K screen, smart automatic leveling, a tilting vat that releases layers faster, print monitoring and Wi-Fi. Build volume 153 × 78 × 165 mm.

What is the easiest 3D printer to use?

For a complete beginner, “easy” mostly means three things: the printer calibrates itself, arrives assembled or nearly, and comes with software that has ready-made profiles. Among the printers we checked, the Bambu Lab A1 Mini ticks all three boxes, followed by the A1 Combo if you want color and more space. Resin printers are easy to operate too, but the washing, curing and safety steps make them more work overall.

How to choose a beginner 3D printer

  1. Automatic calibration: a badly leveled bed is the top cause of failed prints. Printers that measure the bed themselves save hours of frustration.
  2. Filament or resin: filament (FDM) for useful, sturdy, medium-sized objects; resin for small, highly detailed parts with extra handling.
  3. Build volume: 7 in (180 mm) per side is enough for small items, 8.7 to 10 in (220–256 mm) covers most needs, beyond 12 in (300 mm) the printer gets bulky.
  4. Open frame or enclosure: PLA and PETG print fine without an enclosure. ABS and ASA need one to limit warping.
  5. Multicolor: optional on some models, so you can start in one color and add a unit later.
  6. Noise and location: prints run for hours. Keep the printer out of bedrooms and in a ventilated room.
  7. Ecosystem: slicer software, model library, spare parts and community matter as much as the spec sheet. Compare the brands in our brand overview.
  8. Seller: we favor offers sold by the manufacturer and shipped by Amazon, which simplifies returns and support.

How we choose

We have not tested these printers in a lab. This list is based on:

We use the price every visitor pays, not Prime-only prices, and we flag limited-time deals. Where a printer has weak or very few customer ratings on Amazon.com, we say so. Commissions play no role in the order of our picks. More about how we work on our About page.

FAQ

What is the best 3D printer for beginners?

For most beginners, the Bambu Lab A1 Mini offers the easiest start thanks to fully automatic calibration and ready-made software profiles. If you want multicolor or more build space, the A1 Combo is a good step up; for the best value, the ELEGOO Centauri 2; for ABS and ASA, an enclosed printer like the Bambu Lab P1S.

What is the easiest 3D printer to use?

A printer that calibrates itself, arrives assembled and comes with ready-made software profiles. Among the models we checked, the Bambu Lab A1 Mini fits that description best.

How much should I spend on my first 3D printer?

Around $200 to $300 gets you a capable beginner filament printer with automatic leveling. Multicolor and enclosed printers start around $330 to $350 in our checks, and resin printers for miniatures start around $210.

Should a beginner buy a resin or a filament 3D printer?

Filament for useful everyday objects and the simplest start; resin if your main goal is miniatures or jewelry and you accept the gloves, ventilation, washing and curing.

Is an enclosed 3D printer better for beginners?

Not necessarily. For PLA, the most common beginner material, an open printer works fine. An enclosure becomes important for ABS and ASA, and it also reduces noise and drafts.
